DESPITE suffering a defeat to nearest rivals Barnards Green last Saturday, Bromyard gained a comprehensive victory over Cookley on Monday to secure promotion from Division 2 of the Crusader Worcestershire County League.
Skipper Edd Oliver produced a fine innings of 89, including 20 off the final over of the innings, as Bromyard posted 203-9 against Barnards Green
Matt Bullock (31), Zahid Saeed (29) and Dave Taylor (15) gave useful support to Oliver who included 13 fours and a six in his innings.
Whole-hearted bowling from Dave Taylor (4-26) and Zahid (3-66) kept the result in doubt almost to the end but finally Barnards Green sneaked home by two wickets from the first ball of the penultimate over.
Taylor (3-13) also bowled well on Monday to support James Hine (4-39) as relegation candidates Cookley were dismissed for 117.
Bromyard had little difficulty in reaching their target as openers Ashley Bullock, with 12 fours in his unbeaten 61, and Ben Ford (38 not out) knocked off the runs in 29 overs.
With two games remaining, Bromyard lead Barnards Green by 26 points with Netherton, 62 points back, too far adrift to overhaul them for a promotion spot.
