THE Hereford Municipal pairs competition produced a close final which went to the last hole before number two seeds Gareth Hardisty and Adrian Marshall won one up.

They had taken a two-hole lead on the turn but number one seeds club captain Phil Green and junior captain Jack Larkin fought back to all square at the 15th.

Marshall, however, sank a telling 30ft putt on the 16th to go one up and the 17th was halved in par.

Larkin hit back to birdie the 18th with a four but Hardisty notched a five and, with a handicap shot, halved the hole to secure victory in a hard-fought match.

The Municipal club's Captain's Day competitions and presentation evening for members and guests is on Sunday, September 11, and tickets are going fast.
