BELTEX sheep breeder David Bishop, of Luggsmill, Colwall, swept the board in the Beltex classes at Monmouthshire Show at Monmouth, winning the championship with a two-year-old ram and the reserve with a two-year-old ewe.

He also collected the male and female championships, four firsts and two seconds.

"It was like a repeat of Tenbury Show," said Mr Bishop, who is enjoying one of his best show seasons.

"Credit must go to my wife, Ivy, who does such a good job preparing the animals."

In a long season, Mr Bishop has one show left - Moreton in Marsh.

Breed champion in the Black Welsh Mountain classes was C Garn, of Upper House, St Maughans, Monmouth, with a shearling ewe. The exhibitor also had the reserve champion male.

Border Leicester champions were D R and E A Jones, of Dorstone, who also had the champion female and reserve champion male.

Other Herefordshire breeders among the top prizes were Rebecca, Charlotte and Megan Watkins of Craswall, who won the reserve breed and male championships with a ram that was breed champion at the Royal Welsh. The girls also won the exhibitor of the year award with the ram.

D J and G A Watkins of Vowchurch, had the reserve champion female.

In the Berrichon section, R Williams of Three Ashes had the reserve champion, reserve male and the champion female. The Clun breed and reserve championships went to C and A Meredith of Hoarwithy, who also scooped the champion male and female awards. Dorset Down breed champion and reserve champion was from H T Devonald, of Raglan.

John Price, of Ross-on-Wye, was among the winners in the Jacob section, gaining the reserve male championship. Jacob champion was a ewe from Mrs D Price of Churchstoke, and the Kerry Hill champion a yearling ewe from Mrs G Pugh of Four Crosses. Champion male in the Lincoln Longwools was from Mrs J L Newman, Monmouth.

Mrs D A Francis, of Tarrington, had the champion and reserve champion Ryeland, the champion male, female and group.

While Rhys Samuel won the breed and male Suffolk championships, C and A Meredith took the reserve male.

The champion in the Texels came from R M and G L Watkins of Craswall. The reserve female was from C and S Ball of Llantilio Crossenny. Champion Zwartbles was a shearling ewe from Mrs P J Ball of Tenbury Wells. The Badger-faced, initially in the any other breed section, were given their own classes. The badger champion was a ram from Miss Lucy Levinge of Vowchurch. B E and H Pritchard of Longtown, won prizes with a ram lamb and a group of three.
