Thousands of visitors and big names from the folk world will converge on Bromyard for the biggest music event in the town's calendar.

Song, music and dance will fill the streets during the 38th Bromyard Folk Festival, from Friday to Sunday, September 9-11.

Folk artists from across the country will perform, including headliners Patrick Street and Jez Lowe.

Regulars, such as Dr Sunshine and Jim and Johnny, will also entertain crowds, along with a host of morris dancing sides.

Though action is centred in marquees on Bromyard Football Club's ground, a number of town centre venues, including the Falcon, the Hop Pole and the Kings Arms, are also involved.

Last year's event attracted over 2,000 visitors and tickets sold out in record time.

Co-organiser Annie Jones said this year's event looked set to do the same.

"Right now, we're in the same position as last year, tickets are selling extremely well," she said. "We can extend the numbers if really necessary, so we have some leeway there."

Young folk singers can display their talents in the Fred Jordan Memorial Contest, open to under-25s.

A free craft fair will be held at the Public Hall on Saturday and Sunday.

The festival, which now brings in around £500,000 in revenue, began as a one-day event with a budget of £120.

"This year's event has been very hard to organise due to new Government licensing regulations, but it should be worth it," said Mrs Jones.

Performances begin at 8pm on the Friday night. Weekend tickets with camping are £60, day tickets are from £15-£34 from 01885 490323.
