AN investigation is under way to determine how a fire swept through a Hereford pub yesterday (Wednesday) morning.
The blaze at Karlo's in Widemarsh Street started at 8.30am and it took more than 30 firefighters to make the three-storey pub safe.
Keith Newman, Hereford station commander, said seven appliances arrived from all over the county and initially faced very hot and difficult conditions.
He said firefighters managed to extinguish the flames on the ground floor before searching the next two smoke-filled levels.
Mr Newman said the layout of the pub, with lots of small rooms, made the search more difficult while confirming that no-one was found trapped on the premises.
By 9.30am, a team of fire investigators was able to enter the pub. Their investigations had yet to be concluded at the time of going to press.
The emergency services closed off part of Widemarsh Street and the whole of Newtown Road as rush-hour traffic continued to build around the city centre.
