A NURSING home in Herefordshire has warned that it faces being in the same dilemma as a pub with no beer.

The Brockhampton Court Nursing Home is pressing ahead with a major 16-bed extension but faces not having enough nurses to meet the needs of its residents.

In a bid to tackle the problem, an application is being made to build a nurses home on the site to accommodate staff, many of whom are likely to come from overseas.

Planners have been told it is very difficult to recruit nurses and carers from Herefordshire and the problem is made even greater by the isolated location of Brockhampton Court.

At present, six Phillipino nurses working at the home have to walk to and from work in the dark to a nearby rented cottage and the owners of Brockhampton Court say that this is unacceptable.

Instead, they want to use an existing tennis court area to build a home that could house more than 20 nurses and carers.

Herefordshire planners, who met yesterday afternoon (August 31) were being advised by officers to give the green light for work to go ahead.
