Pegasus Juniors 3 Teversal 2

ALMOST 200 spectators saw Pegasus mark their first game at Old School Lane - and their home FA Cup debut - with a First Qualifying Round replay win against their Nottinghamshire opponents.

Pegasus made a poor start, falling behind to David Cockerill's fourth-minute penalty and it took a fine save from Jamie Hales from Danny Adams' effort to prevent the visitors from extending their lead.

The home side gradually worked their way back into the game, however, and Leigh Harris, twice, and Jamie Cuss went close to equalising as half-time approached.

The Pegasus pressure finally paid off on 57 minutes when Harris escaped his marker to score with a low shot and Anthony Robbins put the home side ahead for the first time with a curling shot 10 minutes later.

Teversal pushed up in search of an equaliser and, after Hales had pulled off a couple of smart saves, were back on level terms when Cockerill scored in the 78th minute.

But Pegasus earned a trip to Matlock Town on Saturday when Lawrence Helme scored with a right-foot shot just two minutes later.

Abingdon United 2

A NEEDLESS penalty conceded in the last minute of the first period set Abingdon United, one of the GLS Hellenic League Premier Division's fancied teams, on the way to victory.

Pegasus were first to threaten when Rob Laurie's shot was saved by Gordon Herman while, at the other end, Anaclet Odihambo shot weakly at Jamie Hales after a neat pass from Dean Moss.

Leigh Harris was out of luck when he had a strike disallowed for offside and Chris Mortlock was also unfortunate when he raced on to a weakly-headed back pass from Richard Pierson only to lob his shot on to the roof of the net.

Just before half-time, Moss hit a telling pass into the Pegasus penalty area and the chasing Odihambo collided with Hales. The referee awarded a spot-kick and Odihambo fired home.

After the break, play was largely confined to midfield but Pegasus had the better opportunities. Dean Jordan shot into the side-netting while Harris and Mortlock combined to set up the young striker again but he was unable to get the shot on target.

Late on, Abingdon confirmed their win when Chris Hooper headed in Ryan Curtin's corner at the near post.
