BROCKHAMPTON took over as the Division 1's leading Herefordshire side in the Crusader Worcestershire County League with an eight-wicket crushing of local rivals Luctonians.

The villagers move into second place in the table, ahead of Kington. The border club were hammered by Eastnor, whose seven-wicket success moved them up to fourth place with just one round of matches to be completed.

Luctonians won the toss and elected to bat at Brockhampton and, with Duncan Platford (15) and Mark Lowden (27) posting 40 for the first wicket, appeared to be set for a decent total.

But after the openers were parted, only Will Hicks (20) got into double figures as the rest of the batting was blown away by paceman Mohammad Ali.

The former Derbyshire bowler finished with 7-27 and received good support from Henry Langford (2-32) as the Kingsland side were shot out for 87.

Langford then showed his skill with the bat, racing to 32 as, with support from Dave Mokler (27) and Adam Hewlett (15 not out), Brockhampton romped home in the 13th over.

Only Dave Mumford, with 2-37 in six overs, achieved any success with the ball for Luctonians, whose relegation, along with Stourbridge was confirmed by this result.

Kington found paceman Shahid Ahmed too hot to handle as they were shot out for just 92 at Eastnor.

Shahid finished with 5-47 from 18 overs as, in tandem with Adeel (3-31), he capitalised on Eastnor's decision to invite Kington to bat after winning the toss.

Only Rob Goodman (17), Sam Williams (15) and Martin Powell (10) made it into double figures for Kington with Christiaan Ferreira, who was also responsible for running out Goodman, picking up the final wicket when he clean bowled skipper Duncan Morgan to finish with 1-10.

Although Eastnor quickly lost Adeel, caught and bowled by Alan Butterworth (1-26) for eight, Arshad (29) and Steve Fortey (31) took the home side to the brink of victory with a rapid stand.

Kington hastened their own downfall by conceding 22 extras and the run chase was completed in just 20 overs.

Kington, who picked up just a single point from the defeat, now trail second-placed Brock-hampton by 13 points, with Eastnor a further 27 points back in fourth place.

On a day of big wins and heavy defeats, Ombersley clinched the title with a nine-wicket crushing of relegated Stourbridge.

l The final matches in the league are on Saturday.
