JETTING off on a trip of a lifetime next Tuesday is Little Birch farm student Scott Millar.

The 22-year-old from Lower House Farm will be spending the next seven months finding out what life is like Down Under when he lives and works on a 7,000-hectare Queensland holding.

He's looking forward to being involved with all the work associated with 3,000 beef cattle and the 12 horses on the farm.

The big holding also has crops that will be almost ready for harvest by the time Scott arrives.

He joins about 30 other young people leaving the UK this autumn for a variety of placements in New Zealand and Australia.

"I'm excited about the trip and am looking forward to meeting people of different cultures. We will be meeting up with other students at Singapore airport."

After finishing work on the farm, Scott will have the chance to tour parts of Australia for three weeks with other agricultural students.

He has gained experience working with beef cattle and arable farming on a holding at Standish, Gloucester, while completing a degree in agriculture and land management at Hartpury. He graduated in July.

Scott will be travelling with AgriVenture, who say that the programme gives young people with farming experience the chance to find out what it is really like to live and work in a country, rather than passing through as a tourist.

Scott also studied at Wiltshire College, Lackham.
