FOR the first time in six years, the Cotswold Line Promotion Group (CLPG) is running a special train from Hereford, Ledbury and Colwall to offer passengers a day out in the popular West Country resorts of Torquay and Paignton.

The 2,000 strong group, which works to safeguard and promote the Hereford-Oxford line, has arranged the special with Central and Wessex trains on Saturday, September 24. The train which is due to leave Hereford at 0830 will offer around four and a half hours in the two resorts and will also serve Exeter, Dawlish and Teignmouth en route. There is also the option of a trip on the steam railway from Paignton to Kingswear.

Cost is £22 for adults (£20 for CLPG members), £10 for accompanied children under 16 and free for under 5's.

"This will be our first special train for two years - and the first from Hereford, Ledbury and Colwall since 1999 - and we would urge local people to support the venture both for a great day out and also to help justify future specials from Hereford," said CLPG publicity officer Julian Palfrey. Leaflets are available at stations and tourist information centres, or for further details and booking forms please contact Julian on 01386 561198 or CLPG secretary Brian Clayton on 01386 701528 or email jpalfrey@cotsline.freeserve.co.uk.
