PLAY AREA - Once, Lyonshall children used to play in the ruins of the village’s 13th century castle.
Nowadays the castle is a crumbling ruin and the wrong side of a busy main road.
However, Burgoynes, the village’s biggest employer, has come to the rescue. The family-owned company has presented the village with land for a purpose-built new play area – bigger and safer than the castle, with many of the same features for climbing and swinging and sliding, but even more exciting. The play area is being built with a grant from Community Spaces, part of the Big Lottery Funding.
Burgoynes donated the land, part of Baker’s Meadow in the village centre, to celebrate its 100th birthday last year. Chairman Andrew Burgoyne said: “We wanted to make a contribution to Lyonshall that would be around for the next 100 years. The parish council has done great work in getting the £50,000 grant and it is going to be a very exciting play area.”
