‘BIGGEST EVER’ EVENT - The village that won a top national award for setting up a thriving volunteer run shop in the parish church is to celebrate by staging the most ambitious event ever held by the community. Yarpole will be putting out the flags for the bank holiday weekend, May 27 to 30, with a festival featuring flowers, paintings, music and a packed programme of exciting activities.
One of the organisers of the event, Janet Chitham, said: “This will be a truly family occasion with something to please every member of the family. Children will be entranced by the animal man and an exciting treasure hunt. If, like me, you enjoy flower arranging and gardening you will certainly find pleasure in the flowers and the open gardens; and then there is our own antiques roadshow, a dramatic reading of Beowulf, a talk on timber framed buildings and a croquet tournament for the not too serious - and even more. To add to all this there will be delicious pies and local beers at the Bell and coffees and teas in our own Gallery Café.
All the profits will go to kickstart funding for the final phase of the reordering of the church building. Already we have made a permanent home for our shop, now we want to complete the work of opening up the church for even more community use while at the same time making it more beautiful and convenient for the worshipping community.”
