CARING for God’s Acre (CfGA), the national conservation charity for churchyards and burial grounds based in Herefordshire, is organising a challenge with the St Weonard’s churchyard group to record all the different species to be found in this ancient site over a day and night.

Surveying will start at 7pm on Monday with small mammal surveying, moths and bats until around midnight, with help from Herefordshire Action for Mammals and a moth expert.

Early risers on Tuesday will be around from 3.30am to spot bats returning to roost around dawn followed by more small mammal surveys. Herefordshire amphibian and reptile team will be looking for slow-worms, newts, frogs and toads from 9am, and from 10am everyone will be looking for flowers, birds, bugs, butterflies, mosses and anything else living here.

We would particularly welcome anyone interested in slugs, snails and other creepy crawlies and lichens.

Pupils from St Weonards School will be joining in during the day and the event is supported by the New Grove Trust.

If you would like to join in for one or 24 hours please contact Hilary Smith, Caring for God's Acre on 01568 611154, email info@cfga.fsnet.co.uk
