EX-SAS legend John McAleese, who led the 1980 raid of the Iranian embassy in London, has died of a suspected heart attack, it has been reported.
Mr McAleese, who died on Friday in Thessaloniki, Greece, became an iconic symbol as millions of TV viewers saw him blast open a window and rescue 19 hostages from gunmen.
He also went on to present the TV series SAS: Are You Tough Enough?
His son was fellow Herefordian Serjeant Paul McAleese, who was killed in Afghanistan two years ago, which left his father devastated.
Tributes have already started pouring in for the SAS hero, including many on his Facebook page.
