PYONEAR SUPPORT GROUP - The chairman of the Pyonear Support Group for St Michael's Hospice, June Chase MBE, was accompanied by the group’s treasurer, Iris Jones on a visit to St Michael's Hospice to give a cheque for £2,500 on December 8.
The village has been donating money to the Hospice on an annual basis since 1992 and this cheque takes the total donated to £32,100.
Head of fund-raising at the Hospice, June Denison said that despite hard times, the public are still very generous and supportive.
The hospice is an independent charity and all their services are given free, therefore they rely on around 90 per cent of their funding to come from the community.
Within Canon Pyon, Lent lunches and afternoon teas have helped to raise money and Mrs Chase looks forward to people joining the Lent lunches next year which will start in February.
