LEOMINSTER enjoyed a double home success over Bristol opponents at the weekend to move up to a position just behind the leaders in the Gerrard West of England and South Wales League North Division 1.

Firstly, the North Herefordshire club pulled off a fine 4-2 win against North Bristol and added a further three points the following day with a 3-1 win against Bristol University 2nd.

Against North Bristol, Josh Watkins opened the scoring from open play and Leominster went on to increase their lead when they were awarded a somewhat fortunate penalty flick which Rob Goodman converted.

The visitors pulled a goal back before the break but Leominster continued to dominate play without being able to make the breakthrough.

The home side continued to rain in shots after the break and eventually Dave Harvey converted some good work by Will Eastman to extend their lead.

Josh Watkins cracked in his second of the game following a penalty corner and although North Bristol pulled a goal back, Leominster came out as comfortable winners.

Goodman's fine individual goal got Leominster off to a good start the following day against Bristol University 2nd and Harvey added a second after some good play by Watkins.

John Morgan's flick following a short corner ensured that Leominster would not be caught although the students pulled a goal back with a late consolation strike.

Hereford are still without a win after three games in Premier 3 following a 4-1 defeat at Lydney.

The home side opened the scoring from a short corner routine and quickly doubled their lead in a similar manner. Poor marking then allowed a home attacker to add a third before the interval.

Hereford rallied after the break and pulled a goal back through man-of-the-match Will Alderton following a short corner but Lydney wrapped up the points with another short corner goal in the closing stages.

Hereford 3rd found themselves three goals down inside the first 15 minutes against Cleevillians in Herefordshire & Gloucestershire 1 and eventually went down 3-2 despite a second-half rally.

Three penalty corners proved the city side's early undoing and it was still 3-0 at the interval despite good efforts by Nick Ford and Miles Price.

After the break, Hereford continued to create chances and Dan Little pulled a goal back with 12 minutes to go. Shortly afterwards, Luke Appleby cracked home a loose ball but Hereford, although there were opportunities, failed to grab an equaliser.

In Herefordshire & Gloucestershire 2, Ross inflicted a first defeat of the season on Newent 3rd when they beat their near neighbours 3-1.

Tom Walton opened the scoring for home team Ross after 10 minutes but Newent produced some fine play to hit back and equalise almost immediately.

This merely prompted Ross to step up a gear and Adrian Williams restored their lead from a short corner before the interval.

Ross continued to have much the better of the play in the second period and a fine run by Phil Evans ended with a pass to Dave Pearson who produced a deft touch to score and effectively end the contest.

Hereford 4th notched their first win of the season at the third attempt with a 3-1 win at Cirencester 3rd.

Mark Power followed up to open the scoring after a Jack Snell shot had been saved and newcomer Mark Rees added a second following a penalty corner before the break.

Goalkeeper Andy Harrison saved a Cirencester penalty flick before Power fired home Hereford's third with a reverse sweep.

Cirencester eventually made a series of penalty corners pay with a consolation goal near the end.
