HEREFORD Veterans will have the chance to defend the National Plate after being eliminated 5-1 in the first round of the National Hockey Association Veter-ans Cup at Marjons of Plymouth.
Hereford were under pressure from the start with Richard Wood and Stuart Skyrme having to work hard to contain the midfield and Peter Preece, who was in the action almost immediately, pulling off some outstanding saves in the Hereford goal.
Hereford were not helped by injuries which stretched their squad but Plymouth scored some well-taken goals. Hereford's consolation strike came five minutes from time when Tim Miller latched on to a Steve Alderton pass.
