HEREFORDSHIRE'S largest vineyard, set in over 100 acres of the Broadfield Court Estate and home of Bodenham English Wines, has reported a bumper grape harvest of 30 tonnes - double its 2005 yield.
The dry hot summer lead to early ripening and high sugar levels, so picking had to start earlier than usual and seasonal workers from Poland were employed to help with the picking rush.
"It has all the makings of an excellent vintage," proprietor Mark James said.
Once solely an arable farming estate and dairy, Broadfield Court has diversified in recent years to include conferencing, outdoor corporate activities, training facilities and they also run a wine shop and cafe, which is open to the public daily, offering tastings of all the Bodenham vintages.
