LEOMINSTER built on their resounding success over Dursley the previous week with a fine 4-2 win at Bretforton 2nd in Severn Division 1 of the West Clubs' Women's League.

The North Herefordshire club put Bretforton under pressure from the off and Eve van Hassell opened the scoring just minutes into the game.

The home side attacked strongly in a bid to gain a swift response, forcing a string of penalty corners which brought a number of fine saves from stand-in goalkeeper Shelly Ruff.

Leominster drew some confidence from their keeper's fine form and Jackie Duggan and Kate Holder worked an opening for Meg Rutty to extend the Leominster lead before the interval.

Bretforton could never be discounted, however, and scored twice to level the scores at the start of the second period.

But Leominster showed plenty of resolve to regain the lead when Jess Rutty won a penalty corner which Meg Rutty converted.

In the closing stages, a fine solo run by Karen Hackley brought her the goal which underlined Leominster's superiority on the day.

Hereford bounced back from their drubbing at Newent by winning 4-3 at bottom-club Blockley.

Skipper Di Feely opened the scoring for Hereford in the early stages but the visitors were hit on the break as Blockley levelled the scores.

Towards the end of the first period, Clare Griffiths restored the Hereford lead with a fine strike from the top of the D and, after Blockley had again levelled with a breakaway, she scored again at the start of the second half from a short corner.

Feely tapped home her second of the game to put Hereford two goals clear but a further Blockley goal meant that Hereford were unable to relax until the final whistle.

Hereford 2nd are still a place above their club-mates after surviving a tense last few minutes to secure a 3-2 win over visiting Stroud.

The city side had a good start when Lisa Ferneyhough followed up to score after Clare Milton's shot had been stopped on the goal-line.

Stroud equalised almost immediately, however, with a lifted shot from a penalty corner and it was not until the second period that Hereford regained the lead, Emily Tompkins receiving a through ball from Milton before producing a cool finish. Shortly afterwards, Hereford extended their lead when a penalty corner was cleared to Pippa Cardy and she passed to Helen Lewis who crossed for Dwyn Jones to score.

Hereford conceded a second goal with only minutes remaining and had to hang on for the win.

Ross continue to lead the way in Severn Division 2 after extending their winning run to four matches with a 2-0 success at Gloucester 4th.

The visitors took the lead in the first half when Rebecca Shepherd produced the pass for Lorraine Stephens to score her fourth goal in four outings.

After the break, Ross extended their lead with a goal from Kate Davies.

Gloucester tried hard to pull a goal back in the closing stages but found Ross defenders Gill Badham, Hannah Richards and Phyl Dinnie in fine form.

In the North Division, unbeaten Bretforton proved too strong for Colwall who went down to a 3-1 defeat.
