Hereford United fans are in for a treat on Sunday as some of the greatest players from the club’s past will be gracing Edgar Street once again.

A team of legends will pit their wits against a fans’ team, with supporters paying a combined total of just under £3,000 for the honour of lining up against them or even being on the legend’s substitutes bench.

The match has got me thinking about some of the great players that I have seen  during my 20 or so years of supporting them.

The current situation at Edgar Street is gloomy and the club has got a huge battle on its hands to try and get the disillusioned fans who have stayed away from the ground recently back through the turnstiles.

Hopefully, things can improve and there will be further future legends wearing the black and white of Hereford United.

But in the meantime, here is my all time favourite Hereford United XI, with substitutes, since I started supporting them in the early 1990s (no loanees allowed).

And yes, I have included some “cult heroes” in there :-)

Do you agree? Let me know and tell me what your greatest ever team is.

Goalkeeper: Wayne Brown

The fans didn’t call him Superman for nothing.  Great keeper who helped the Bulls get promoted back to the Football League

Right-back: Ryan Green

Great servant who will forever be remembered for “that” goal against Halifax that secured promotion back to the Football League

Centre-back: Ian Wright

A colossus at the back, who was useful at grabbing the odd goal at the other end of the pitch

Centre-back: Tamika Mkandawire

One of the most cultured footballers I’ve seen at Edgar Street

Left-back: Murray Fishlock

One of my favourite players growing up watching the Bulls

Right-midfield: Gavin Williams

Could play anywhere in midfield or up front. You could tell from very early on that he would go far in the game

Centre-midfield: Ben Smith

A cracking player, who was awesome in the 2003/04 team

Centre-midfield: Toumani Diagouraga

Instrumental in helping the Bulls gain promotion to League One

Left-midfield: Paul Parry

One of the best players I’ve seen at Edgar Street, if only his shot had gone  in after hitting the post against Leicester in the FA Cup

Striker: Steve White – I loved seeing him bang in the goals in the early 1990s. A great striker.

Striker: Steve Guinan

Hereford’s all-time leading goalscorer in the Conference and a gent off the pitch too

Subs:

Alan Judge (goalkeeper), Tony James (the centre-back who was at Hereford from 1998-2006 and 2010), Dean Smith (centre-back), Michael Rose (left-back), John Snape (centre-midfield), Neil Grayson (striker), Guy Ipoua (striker)
