PARISH WEEKEND - Around the village there are noticeboards with details of all the events scheduled for August 18-19. These include a family show competition for children and young people and also a special one for dads. Included are art, photography, craft and cookery. Prizes for these competitions will be donated by the Ferney Inn. The scarecrow trail around the village, with the Diamond Jubilee and Olympic theme, will be judged by Andrew Easton of BBC Hereford and Worcester, with a prize of £20 donated by the Bells Inn. There will be a variety of stalls including. bottles, books, bric-a-brac, cakes, car boots, plants and a raffle. Open gardens on Saturday will include Newport House, Kymin Cottage, Batch Cottage, The Old Villa, 1 Church Terrace, Stonewell Cottage and Corner House. Teas accompanied by organ music will be served in St Mary’s Church that afternoon. Sunday will see activities on and around Spearmarsh Common and in the village hall. Teas provided by the Almeley WI will be served in the hall. Entertainment will be provided by a jazz band as well as games organised by the Almeley Cricket Club. Proceeds from the weekend will be divided between St Mary’s Church and the village hall.
