The many paid engagements have put the accounts in a very healthy position. The band said farewell to Jan Newton, treasurer for two years, as she starts an MA at Swansea University. Jan’s place has been filled by Lynn Rowlands.
Elected officers are: chairman, Cath Mellings, vice-chairman Sue Galliers, treasurer Lynn Rowlands and secretary Gill Wilson. TEDDIES - A teddy bears’ picnic and party was held in the Drill Hall to celebrate the instillation of a new piece of play equipment in the park next to the community centre.
Jane Jones and a group of other parents have been trying to get some new play equipment at the park since March. After lots of letters and a petition to Powys County Council they have now got a bench, a bin, had a swing fixed and last Thursday the Miss Muffet climbing frame and slide was put up.
The picnic was due to take place in the park but heavy rain meant their picnic was held in the drill hall instead. At the event there was a raffle with 24 prizes, a treasure hunt and of homemade cakes for sale. Coun Christine Branford officially declared the new Miss Muffet equipment open. The total raised on the day was £251.91. The group is now trying to raise £8,000 to buy a roundabout and some drums for the park. Jane Jones thanked everyone who supported the group.
