COFFEE MORNING - There will be a coffee morning at the church hall, Knighton on Saturday from 10.30am till 12noon. At the event there will be a selection of items or sale including cakes, books and produce and a raffle.

GIFT DAY - St Edward’s church will be holding its annual gift day on Saturday. The church will be open all day and church wardens will be available to receive any gifts.

COFFEE MORNING - There will be a coffee morning at Knighton Baptist church next Thursday, September 20, from 10.30 to 11.30am. At the event there will be bric-abrac, and cakes for sale. Admission is free and there will be a box for donations.

Proceeds will go to the bible society.

SINGING FOR FUN - The next session of singing for fun with Marion Rowlatt will be on September 21, at 10.30am in the church hall, Knighton.

CHURCH SERVICES FOR SUNDAY - Knighton Baptist church 11am to include communion and led by Rev Maggie Rich; Knighton Methodist church 11am, led by Sister P Sanders; Knighton Catholic church, celebration of Holy Mass 11am, St Edward’s church, Knighton; family service at 11am led by Rev Melia Cope. This is the first family service which will be held on the third Sunday of each month; St David’s Church, Whitton 9.30am, Holy Communion led by Rev Gordon Mansfield; St Andrew’s Church, Norton 11am Harvest Holy Communion led by Rev Gordon Mansfield.

HEYOPE LADIES GUILD - The next meeting of St David’s Church Heyope, Ladies Guild is on Tuesday at Knucklas Chapel starting at 7.30pm. The speaker for the evening will be Bridget Smith who will be taking and showing slides on the riding for the disabled organisation.

TREF-Y-CLAWDD WI - The October meeting opened with members remembering long term member, Joan Musaheb who died recently. Joan was at the WI’s garden party recently where she took her place on the sales table. Joan will be sadly missed.

The next meeting is on October 3, at 7.30pm in the school room of Norton street Baptist church. The speaker will be Sylvia Barrett on Princess Diana and her life in fashion.

STOWE AND STANAGE WI - Special guests at the WI’s September meeting were two live hedgehogs who were brought along by Elaine and Nigel Acton of the Howey Hedgehog rescue centre.

During the business part of the meeting, chaired by president Margaret Brick, it was noted that members gained 3rd place in the WI section of Knighton Show. One member is interested in the forthcoming visit or Denman College in Oxfordshire. Members were unable to accept and invitation to Llangunllo WI for a presentation on the Offa’s Dyke because it was on the same night as their next meeting. Member Alison Thomas has swam a total of nine and a half miles for the Big Walk-Little Splash county event. The county calendar with members photos of the countryside was shown and will be available to buy at county events in the Autumn. The meeting ended as usual with tea, biscuits and a chat.

LLANBISTER MOTHER’S UNION - Members met in the church for the ‘wave of prayer’ service.

A tea will take place on September 24, in Llanbister community hall from 2pm till 3.30pm in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
