BAKERY chain Greggs has spoken out after rumours of a new shop in Hereford circled social media.
Greggs could be planning a large café at Phantom House in The Straight Mile, Rotherwas, according to community website Hereford Voice
Planning permission is likely to be needed from Herefordshire Council before any Greggs bakery opens at the building.
The most recent planning application for the site appears to have been made in 2007 when approval was granted for a change of use to office, warehouse, stores, workshop and showroom.
Greggs already has two shops in Hereford, both in the city centre, with a third in Belmont Road closing in 2020.
It closed in March 2020 when the first coronavirus lockdown started and in July, the popular chain, famous for its bakes and sausage rolls, said it would not reopen.
When asked about the Rotherwas rumours, a spokesperson said: “Greggs is always looking into new shop locations, while we are unable to confirm anything at the moment, we will be sure to share any information in due course.”
