HEREFORD'S Bastion Mews is now redolent with the mouth-watering smell of freshly-baked bread after a new bakery opened in the city.
Offering traditional loaves, rolls, bagels and sweet baked treats made and baked on the premises, the newly opened Bastion Bakehouse will cater to daily bread needs as well as lunch and snacks.
Filled fresh bagels and baguettes will satisfy lunchtime hunger, while Chelsea and Belgian buns (amongst others) will provide much-needed boosts to morale, front-of-house manager Lara Latcham said.
Made from traditional recipes and the finest ingredients, the Bakehouse is promising quality bread products made with love and passion.
Bastion Bakehouse is the latest venture from Hereford catering community A to Zest Events, which is also responsible for Dough cafe, also at Bastion Mews.
The Bastion Mews area off Bath Street, once home to Hereford favourite the Dinosaw Market, has undergone a major regeneration with a foodie focus in recent years.
It is home to businesses including Shack Revolution, owned by brothers James and Richard Manning of Manbro Developments.

The pair submitted plans to redevelop the area in 2021, with planners giving their scheme to replace a former bike shop and a record shop in the mews with a new development of stacked modular pods, while the existing Bastion House, thought to date from the 1800s, would be adapted for residential apartments.
James Manning told councillors at the time that the area would become “a thriving centre for start-up enterprises, as we were once, where businesses can enjoy flexible terms and low start-up costs”.
“We hope to continue the transformation that we started at the Shack across Bastion Mews as a whole by removing and redeveloping the poorer stock and refurbishing the historic elements,” he said.
