A HEREFORD shop will remain open after its company collapsed into administration.

Carpetright went into administration earlier this month, but has been saved in a rescue deal by Tapi Carpets and Floors.

Tapi has revealed that 54 shops will stay open, including the Hereford branch in the Newtown Road retail park.

On Monday (July 22), Tapi said it was taking over 54 sites and two warehouses, but to take over at all sites and warehouses was "unviable". This after Carpetright appointed administrators due to decreased demand and a cyber-attack this year.

Jeevan Karir, Tapi's managing director, said: "We turned ourselves to trying to save a number of stores whilst being mindful of how the competition authorities would look at any deal.

"So, we arrived at 54 stores and two supporting warehouses, all of which are exceptional and which we would be proud to have as part of the Tapi family.”

More than 200 Carpetright shops will close, including Worcester.

Carpetright filed a notice to appoint administrators earlier this month after struggling in the face of weaker demand and a major cyber attack in April.

The company employed 1,852 people and operated 272 stores across the UK before entering insolvency.
