The former Wilko shop in the city’s Maylord Orchards remains empty since its closure nearly a year ago, with the site now looking for new tenants to transform the vacant shop.
The bargain retail shop shut its Hereford branch in September 2023, after the chain collapsed and closed all its stores at the time, after administrators, PwC failed to secure a buy-out deal in time to save the business as a whole.
The former Hereford Wilko unit is currently being marketed by chartered surveyors Wright Silverwood, with the vast space being advertised to let at £150,000 per annum.
The unit, which was listed by the surveyors earlier this year, is described as holding a “prominent trading position” within the city, and within close proximity to a selection of national retailers such as the popular chain, Poundland.
Many locals were left saddened and shocked after the national retailer announced its closure, with many flocking to the city centre store to get their hands on reduced priced goods before it was too late. The chain had been in Hereford for nearly ten years at the time of its closure, after its official opening 2013, which created 87 jobs in the city.
The beloved British store has lived on, but in a different form to what we once knew. The company still offers online shopping services, and has a small selection of stores that re-opened after rival discount store, The Range agreed to buy the Wilko brand.
