A popular Church Street coffee shop has re-opened, but with an Italian twist this time.

The city centre café which was previously Polly's at no.10, has been reinvented by its owners, as La Dolce Vita, a nod to the owner’s Italian heritage.

The owners of the business, Giovanni Calandra, and his partner Layla Razavi, decided to “evolve” their previous business by “refurbing and rebranding” what their previous café offered.

The newly re-opened space near the Cathedral, which is described as being “in the heart of Hereford”, offers a plethora of options, with sandwiches, quiches, and sweet items all on offer.

The independently owned coffee shop not only serves a range of enticing options, but also caters to both vegans and vegetarians, as well as offering gluten free options to customers.

Potential customers to the Church Street haven will also be thrilled to know that the café also welcomes their furry friends along, with dogs welcomed into the premises.

Speaking of the cafe’s new menu, Giovanni said: “We have very talented and hard-working staff who make homemade scones daily as well as homemade quiches and tarts.

“We also offer great value for money with many customers positively commenting on the size of the portions as well as the freshness of all salads, sandwiches and toasties which are made.

“We make sure that we get fresh ingredients and produce in daily”.

The newly refurbished café also offers afternoon teas which customers can prebook, as well as the option to hire out the coffee shop to have more “privacy” for special events, including bridal and baby showers.

Giovanni explained the inspiration behind the rebranded cafes name, saying: “La Dolce Vita means the sweet life in Italian and we chose this name because we serve Italian coffee and we wanted to acknowledge my heritage and the Italian way of life which we both enjoy”.

The café celebrated its official grand opening last month, with crowds gathering outside for the special moment that the café was re-opened under a new lease of life, and this time, the Italian way.
