A HEREFORD school is making progress after being told it needs to improve, according to Ofsted.

Inspectors, who visited The Hereford Academy last month, said that leaders at the Redhill-based school 'have an ambitious vision for the quality of education that they want pupils to achieve'.

Overall, they still graded the school as 'requires improvement', but it did score 'good' in three of the four areas rated.

"The school has made positive changes to the curriculum as a result. However, it is too soon to see the full impact that these changes have had on the quality of education for pupils

"The school is developing a strong, ambitious curriculum for the academic achievement of all pupils, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)," reads the report.

"It recognises that, for too long, pupils have not achieved well enough. The school has made positive changes to the curriculum as a result. However, it is too soon to see the full impact that these changes have had on the quality of education for pupils.

"Since the last inspection, the school has completed a considerable amount of work on developing the curriculum and how it is implemented in lessons. However, much of this work is in the early stages and still needs time to embed."

Michael Stoppard, Headteacher at The Hereford Academy, said: “I am very pleased the Ofsted inspection team could clearly see the continued positive progress here.

"This acknowledgement is important as it provides firm evidence the school is on an upward trajectory in all areas and that the hard work being done by staff and leaders is bearing fruit. We are now a popular school and are full in most year groups.
