MOST drivers over 60 feel they are reasonably satisfied with their competence behind the wheel but as well as a slowing of reaction times, ageing also causes changes in peripheral vision.

As you get older you may rely more on your car for the basics of living – like food shopping – especially in the many rural districts of Herefordshire.

Herefordshire Advanced Motorists was not surprised by the response to the Older Driver Day in Hereford recently, following the success of the first event in Leominster, and is to hold another refresher day for older drivers at the Larruperz Centre in Ross-on-Wye on May 10.

If you have problems negotiating roundabouts, junctions and manoeuvring or simply understanding the Highway Code, then this might be the course for you.

The course imparts useful strategies and tailors advice to individual drivers.

Throughout the day in Hereford 33 people took the advantage of an assessed drive, in their own car, by one of HAM's qualified Advanced Driving Observers and were given friendly help and advice on their performance.

Ross-on-Wye places are limited and cost £12,. Anyone interested should contact Mary Bevan on 01874 712267 or email marybevan@dsl.pipex.com MIKE LEIGH, Herefordshire Advanced Motorists.
