I AM writing this letter because I am concerned at changes that may be taking place after this term. I am a young person who attends Girl Group on a Monday night and I think what I am saying is also on behalf of many other young people in Hereford.

We are well aware that the youth services funding for Girls’ and Boys’ groups is in the process of being considered, with funding only for referred young people being considered.

A council youth group, I think, should be for all young people not just those who have issues. We as young people feel we are being discriminated against and yet everyone is supposed to have equal rights. This is segregation within the community causing divide and disputes between those of different upbringings. I feel strongly that this will cause an increase of anti-social behaviour due to the fact that young people that aren’t referred could have nowhere to go to socialise within the area.

West Mercia Constabulary will have more phone calls about loud music, shouting, drinking and drugs. Could the change to funding for referred young people only result in other young people trying to get themselves referred by committing anti-social behaviour?

Every young person has issues within their lives, and I completely understand that some people’s are a lot worse than others, but mixing the two sections up will more than likely increase confidence and self esteem in the referred group because they know that they have people within the same age group to talk and in some ways relate to.

I, and many other people, think the world of the intergrated support workers and they do a lot for us as young people, we feel that they support us in many ways.
