I AM trying to contact anyone who had connections with a boys’ prep school, Aymestrey School, which closed in 1998.
The school started in Malvern in 1909, and was named after the Herefordshire village of Aymestrey where the founder (Maurice Nightingale Asterley, who was teaching at Lucton School) met his wife (Edith Coates, who lived at Eyton and was known as Tief within the school).
In 1922 it moved to Crown East just west of Worcester. In 1935 Maurice died and his son Dan took over. In 1966 Hugh and Gill Griffith (my parents) took over from Dan, although he continued to teach for another 10 years.
Most of the contact details I have date from 1998, so many are no longer current, although I know a number of old boys and staff members are still in the area.
The school drew students from around the area, mostly from Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Shropshire.
We are holding a reunion on Sunday, July 28, at Top Barn, Holt Heath.
Also, I am creating a history of the school and am interested in any memories, or photographs, or other items people may have.
There is already some history on aymestreyschool.com and I can be contacted at aymestreyoldboys@hotmail.com for more details about either of these things.
To make bookings for the reunion contact Rob Delahay at the Top Barn Activity Centre on 01905 622223 or email rob@topbarn activity.com.
We are using Top Barn as the Aymestrey building has been sold and turned into private residences.
