I cannot put into words my feelings on reading the headlines of this week's Hereford Times.
The manager of Marks & Spencer, who has had that position for all of 12 weeks, dares to try to wipe out part of Hereford's history and heritage. Through red tape and ELF and Safety' Hereford is being stripped bare.
Soon we will have nothing left except supermarkets, chainstores and charity shops. It's little wonder that people don't wish to visit or shop here any more.
I belong to a local history group, Herefordshire Lore, and we do all we can to preserve and promote our beautiful city of Hereford when along comes Martin Woodhouse of Marks & Spencer with his bright ideas.
Well, I am not going to do my regular shopping at Marks & Spencer from today. Yes, the fair is noisy and a pain, but it is part of Hereford's history and I, for one, would want to keep it, full stop. We have a traffic grid lock everyday, not just May Fair time.
