I HAVE to agree with the comments raised by the manager of Marks & Spencer regarding the May Fair - it should be moved to a more suitable location.
The May Fair is a traditional event that goes back many centuries but, in those times, it could never cause the disruption it does today. The traditional oldie worldie' fair of bygone times has become a mobile theme park causing colossal noise and smell pollution plus massive disruption to our modern way of life.
Just because something has been done a certain way for a long time doesn't mean it's the right thing to do now. As for pollution, I think having dozens of large generators belching out fumes for up to 12 hours each day in the middle of a city is bad for public health and the environment.
We need to adapt to an ever-changing world. I don't want to see the fair disappear, but I do think it could continue to thrive in a more practical location and may prosper even more.
