COULD I, through your good offices, remind the people of Herefordshire of a relatively new charity that exists in only two places in England – Hereford and London?
Following a consultation at the Charles Renton Unit at the County Hospital I had to have an operation in January of this year. Following the operation, I became aware of Breast Cancer Haven, located in St Owens Street, Hereford. The charity provides emotional support to the victims of breast cancer, both pre and post-operative and subsequent to invasive treatments. The charity is indeed a “haven” as, when one enters the building, one is struck with the friendliness and peaceful atmosphere. One is offered advice, understanding of one’s obvious anxieties, sympathy, plus a shoulder to cry on when necessary. Breast Cancer Haven also offers complementary therapies, such as acupuncture, massage, yoga, reflexology, etc. All of these sessions have a calming effect when one is going through the stressful condition of cancer. I have been helped enormously by this unique facility we have in our midst and I trust that others may benefit as I have. We are indeed fortunate in this city to have just one of the only two in England.
Finally, also remember that men as well as women can have breast cancer. Breast Cancer Haven can offer advice and support to both sexes.
Mrs N Mudge, Barton West, Barton Road, Hereford.
