THANK you, Hereford Times. During the recent floods a manhole serving a foul drain near my house surcharged and deposited its contents on the footpath and an adjoining children’s play area.
Early on the Sunday morning I noticed the awful mess this had made and contacted Herefordshire Council out-of-hours number.
The helpful lady assured me that the mess would be cleared that day.
On the Monday morning I noticed that nothing had been done. I emailed the council and, on Monday afternoon received a reply, saying the council was not responsible for the mess there and gave the number to ring Welsh Water.
I rang Welsh Water twice and, by Tuesday evening nothing had happened.
I contacted you at the Hereford Times and you took it up with the authorities and within the hour the mess was cleared.
Thank you very much for caring where others clearly could not be bothered.
JOHN PREECE (with the drain), Villa Street, Hereford. 084008-1
