SUNDAY, March 15, was a lovely sunny day, so my wife and I decided to drive over to Abergavenny and enjoy a visit to that lovely market town.

Unusually, the majority of car drivers were careful, considerate and kept to the sensible speed limit for the A465.

However, the good weather had brought out an extraordinary number of motorcyclists – we counted about 100 on our outward and homeward journey.

Doubtless, some were good drivers and exercised due care and diligence.

Sadly, this did not apply to the majority of riders, who overtook in very dangerous places – even on the bridge at Llangua/Pontrilas – and vastly exceeded the speed limit.

The number of these motorcyclists who overtook at points that were prohibited, due to single or double white continuous centre lines on the road, was breathtaking.

We saw only two motorcyclists follow the example of car drivers who slowed to observe the 50 and 40 mph speed limits at Pandy/ Llanvihangel Crucorney.

We were thankful and amazed to read the Hereford Times and find that no motorcycle accidents had occurred.
