THE comparatively small article regarding MPs’ expenses on page three (always a revealing page) of your newspaper recently (Hereford Times, April 2) should really have been front page headlines – with apologies to the great Desmond Tutu.
I have been in business all my life and I know how expenses have been scrutinised and controlled in order to ensure survival.
The vast majority of people in Herefordshire are suffering from the economic downturn in one way or another.
And when the country’s average take-home pay is a mere fraction of the MPs’ expenses, there must surely be many unanswered questions.
The list of expenses in your article is simply not transparent enough.
Please can we all have details of these figures so that we can really see how much our MPs are earning (on top of their £64,766 salaries).
We might then be able to judge whether or not they are worth voting for.
