I READ your article on the proposed plans for Grange Court (Hereford Times, April 9), and it was news to me. The plans propose to “destroy”
the old vinery and add two extensions, one going from the side of the building to the wall.
This will tower above the hedge and will be visible from the front so will destroy the integrity of the existing building. This is all being done so that Leominster can once again own the building.
I think that good intentions are now embarked on a course to destroy the very building that it is intended to help.
Also in the process, various very old mature trees will be felled, so the ambience of the site will also change – not for the good.
Why there is a need to obtain ownership at a cost of such destruction amazes me. Leominster already owns the building in so much as it is in Leominster, it is not going anywhere and if it were to be sold, the sale could carry caveats which would safeguard its wellbeing.
No one owns a building, you become a caretaker until it is sold on to the next caretaker – the fact you can call it yours for a while does not reduce those responsibilities and, as such, Grange Court should be kept as it is for future generations and not become an office block.
I feel there has been a total lack of consultation, a lack of forethought and a dash for the cash (lottery money). I also believe that the people of Leominster are unaware of the change from the original concept, so please have a look at the plans (Info Office, Corn Square) and if you wish to comment or object please do so as, after tomorrow, you will have no say.
