EMERGENCY services were called to two crashes on the same road near Ross-on-wye in the space of an hour yesterday (Sunday).

Five people - three adults and two children - were left in the care of the ambulance service after two vehicles collided on the A4137 at Marstow shortly after 6pm.

A spokesperson for Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service (HWFRS) said that crews from Whitchurch and Ross attended the scene and made the vehicles safe.

Paramedics treated a woman for minor injuries before being taken to Hereford County Hospital. The remaining four people were all assessed and discharged at the scene. 

Police also attended, with the road closed in both directions. 

Then, at just after 6.55pm, (HWFRS) was called to another crash on the A4137 at the St Owen's Cross junction. 

The crash again involved two vehicles, with one left on its side.

“Two people, a woman and a man, had freed themselves from the vehicles prior to the service’s arrival," added the spokesperson.

“The Whitchurch crew made the vehicles and scene safe with fuel leaking from one vehicle.

“One female casualty was left in the care of the ambulance service with the police also in attendance.

“The final crew left the scene at 7.32pm.”

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said that they were called at 6.40pm, with once ambulance attending. 

"On arrival we discovered two occupants of the vehicles," he said.

"A woman was treated for injuries not believed to be serious before being taken to Hereford County Hospital. The second patient did not wish to be assessed."
