ONE of Hereford United's most distinguished former players has died in Derby.
Freddie Jones played for the Bulls in the 1950s and his sparkling wing play earned him a big money transfer to Arsenal in 1958.
Although he failed to make the first-team at Highbury, he moved on to Brighton, Swindon, Grimsby and Reading, making more than 150 Football League appearances and earning two Wales under-23 caps.
He returned to Edgar Street toward the end of his career and enjoyed a second successful spell.
He made 194 appearances for Hereford, scoring 50 goals, before leaving for a second time in 1967.
A full tribute will appear in Thursday's Hereford Times.
