EWYAS Harold’s Dave Whitson knows it might be hard to keep his ambitious partner Rob Calderhead at the club for a second term, writes CHRIS PLANT.
The management duo are leading Harold’s charge for the Herefordshire League Premier Division title in their maiden season.
Harold finished a disappointing fourth last term, despite leading the way for most of the campaign.
Whitson has worked with Calderhead in football for the past four years and believes the former Yeovil Town man is destined for bigger things.
“Rob can coach and manage at higher levels than where we are now for sure,” said joint-manager Whitson.
“He has the professional experience behind him.
“He played under me for Pilgrims in the inter-service league and I could see his leadership qualities there so I made him captain and then assistant manager.
“Success brings attraction and the attraction would be ‘can I do it at a higher level?’ “There is no doubt Rob will leave Harold eventually,”
said Whitson.
The management are fully focussed on Ewyas Harold’s title bid. Whitson said: “We are looking to win every game to gain success for this club.
“They are a great group of lads at Harold with some very good players and have been fantastic to us.
“What happens in the future we don’t know, but we are aiming for success.”
Former Yeovil Town and Watford player Calderhead is planning to take his UEFA-A Coaching licence.
“I am hoping to achieve my UEFA-A coaching licence, but nothing is planned yet,” said Calderhead.
“I am fully committed to delivering success to Harold, they have been very good to me.
“Eventually, I would like to step up in quality and coach in higher standard leagues.”
Harold face a key clash on Saturday in their bid for the Herefordshire League Premier Division title.
The table-topping villagers, who beat Lads Club Reserves 6-2 last weekend to maintain an unbeaten record in the league stretching back to September, entertain thirdplaced Wellington Reserves who are five points behind with three games in hand.
Wellington won the first game between the sides 2-0 earlier in the season.
