Herefordshire FA 2 Derbyshire FA 1

CALLUM Craddock’s superb long-range strike fired Herefordshire to a superb victory in the Midland Counties Under-16 Youth Championship at Bartestree.

Herefordshire rallied in the second- half and Craddock’s 78th-minute rocket into the top corner capped a fine comeback.

Derbyshire had opened the scoring in the 27th minute through Joseph Illston, who finished off a defence-splitting move.

But the hosts enjoyed playing up the slope in the second period and drew level within 10 minutes of the restart.

Matt Jones reacted to slot home the equaliser after Billy Beaumont had risen at the back post to head down Carlos Moreira’s corner.

It was Herefordshire’s first county match at Bartestree and manager Luke Johnston was delighted with the triumph.

“Our approach play, at times, was a joy to watch,” said Johnston. “We deserved our hard-earned victory.”
