LUCTONIANS Colts have roared into the last four of the National Under-18 Cup.
The Mortimer Park club will need to see off a selection of international quality players in this Saturday’s home semi-final if they are to make it through to the final.
Luctonians’ reward for beating Wellingborough Academy 23-10 in their quarter-final is a home match against past winners Bishops Stortford.
But the south-east club will be tough opponents with two England and one Ireland u18s players in their ranks.
Around 200 supporters turned out to see Luctonians superbly battle through to the last four.
An early penalty from Tom Jones gave the home side an advantage which was quickly overtaken by a try from Wellingborough’s Sam Smith.
Although trailing 5-3 at the turnaround, Luctonians wasted no time in gaining the lead with a try from Matt Stokes with Jones and Ben Rowsell then setting up Sam Shorthouse for a second score. Jones converted Shorthouse’s try.
With two further Jones penalties increasing their tally, Luctonians’ win was not dented by a late try.
Saturday’s big clash at Mortimer Park kicks off at 2pm.
