Orleton Colts 2 Woofferton Colts 1
Orleton Colts are through to the Herefordshire League FW Peterson Cup final after edging past local rivals Woofferton Colts this afternoon, writes TOM VALE.
Will Caswell's 30-yard screamer opened the scoring and Shane Jennings added a second, to ensure Orleton face Bromyard FC in the final on Saturday, April 27.
Jake Collett hit a late goal for Woofferton but the hosts held on for a semi-final success.
Woofferton played the better football of the first half.
A corner then saw a scrap in the Orleton penalty area and the ball being cleared off the line by Kyle Whittacase.
Collett knocked the ball on for Dan Hicks who dragged his shot agonisingly wide.
Collett then whipped in a cross that Chris Breakwell flicked on to Curtis Howell at the backpost, but his tight-angled shot was kept out by the legs of Orleton ‘keeper Kelvin Thomas.
From the resulting corner, Curtis sent a thunderous header crashing off the crossbar.
Caswell fired Orleton ahead from a superb free-kick and Jennings coolly slotted home to double their lead.
Caswell caused problems again with a thumping 35-yard free-kick that Vickery had to palm wide, before slipping the ball to Luke Savage who stabbed the ball home, only for his effort to be ruled offside.
Collett’s powerful effort was well-saved but the striker lashed home the rebound to make it 2-1 with three minutes remaining.
However, Orleton took the local bragging rights.
