Pershore 22 pts Ledbury 10 pts.
A CONTROVERSIAL late try deprived Ledbury of probable Midlands Three West (South) safety.
But the Ross Road side go into their final game of the season, at home to fellow-strugglers Southam, on Saturday, knowing that their fate is still in their own hands.
At promotion-chasing Pershore, Ledbury were holding on to a losing bonus point when, in the game’s final move, a home winger appeared to drop the ball over the line but saw a try awarded anyway. Pershore had taken the lead with a converted try in the 10th minute but George Bennion’s penalty 18 minutes later cut the home lead.
A well-taken try 10 minutes into the second period reasserted Pershore’s lead and when the home side went over for a third score six minutes from the end, Ledbury hopes seemed to have been crushed.
Just a minute remained when centre Jon Watkins crashed over for a try, converted by Bennion, which seemed to have guaranteed a bonus point. But Ledbury’s hopes were crushed by the late score which leaves a tense afternoon in prospect on Saturday.
