A HEREFORDSHIRE business can claim a slice of the success following the richest horse race in the world.
Former Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom romped to victory in the $10m Dubai Gold Cup.
And the success was achieved with the help of a supplement supplied by Whitestone-based Ron Fields Nutrition.
“We supplied them with NB50-30, which is a herbal product made in India,” said Ron Fields.
“It improves the performances of the lungs.”
Fields explained that when horses breathe heavily, the capilliaries in the lungs are sometimes unable to stand the extertion and so bleeding occurs. The product was developed to help with this, although Animal Kingdom does not suffer with bleeding.
“This all started a few years back because I knew the head lad of Barry Hills, the trainer in Lambourne,” said Hills.
“He told me that they had a horse which would win if it didn’t bleed. “I sent some NB50-30 down and they tried it. “That horse, Redwood, went on to win in England, France, Hong Kong and Australia and was second in Dubai, winning $2.3m in prize money.”
After that, the company started selling the product in the USA which is where the link with Animal Kingdom became established.
