Westfields Res 1 Ewyas Harold 1
TABLE-topping Ewyas Harold face an anxious wait to see if they have done enough to win the Herefordshire League Premier Division title after a 1-1 draw at Westfields Reserves this afternoon, writes Tom Vale.
Captain Owen Lloyd's stunning volley salvaged a point for Harold at allpay.park, leaving them just eight points ahead of Wellington Rangers, who still have four league games to play.
The home side took a deserved lead when a sweeping passing move saw Mark Davis find Ferneyhough to set-up Lee Marlow who smashed the ball past Daniel Taylor.
Harold looked a different side in the second period and should have equalised when Willie Lindesay shot straight at Jon Pugh.
Lindesay then chested the ball through for Rory Worthing, whose shot thumped the crossbar.
Jarron McCaulley should have extended Westfields’ lead when Terry Green headed the ball through but the sub’s shot was deflected wide.
Goalkeeper Pugh sprinted out to foil Lindesay but he couldn’t get a strong enough hand to keep out Lloyd’s 20-yard volley.
It sparked jubilations for the visiting support and players, as they sensed they might be able to snatch victory.
A late Tommy Taylor free-kick from 25 yards was tipped over by Pugh to deny Harold, before Davis fired wide for Fields.
