Luctonians 42 pts Stockport 21 pts.

LUCTONIANS moved up to seventh in National Two North after completing their home season with a conclusive win over relegated Stockport.

But the visitors certainly played above their league position and made Luctonians battle for their victory.

The home side had the advantage of a strong breeze in the first period but conceded the first score when centre Alex Zavallis-Roebuck went over beneath the posts to give Josh Longmor and easy conversion.

Second-row Mike Cheasley capitalised on a quick passing movement for the first Luctonians try before John Morris kicked a penalty after Stockport were caught offside to put the Mortimer Park Club ahead.

Jimmy Norris’ try then followed another good period of home pressure.

Paul Hulland’s yellow card for not rolling away brought a further good spell for Stockport but the Cheshire club were unable to take advantage with any points.

Chris Jaques touched down for an unconverted try early in the second period but, soon afterwards, Longmor intercepted a Will Burton pass for an easy try which he converted himself.

An unconverted try from replacement prop Anthony Marfell boosted the home side. But Luctonians’ lead was then cut to just two points when Stockport, although reduced by a yellow card, scored again through Myles Hall with Longmor adding the extras.

The strong Luctonians replacement bench then came into its own with three tries in the final 10 minutes all coming from substitutes.

Matt Hackley powered over from a Hulland pass before Alex Rumsey set up George Thomas for a score.

Rumsey went over for the third of the trio of tries, two of which were converted by man-of-the-match Geraint Langdon to set up Luctonians for their final game at Preston on May 11.
