SRI Lanka Test all-rounder Dinusha Fernando made a flying start as Bromyard opened their Worcestershire League Division One programme with a winning draw against Worcester Dominies.
Fernando blasted 94 from 90 balls, with five sixes and seven fours, as Bromyard posted 237-9 from their 50 overs.
Ashley Bullock gave solid assistance with 56.
Fernando, with 1-26 from 15 overs, helped to restrict the early Dominies reply with Tom Baylis (3-29) and Matt Morgan (3-46) picking up useful wickets as the hosts were restricted to 182-8.
Australian Jacob Rodgers made a promising debut for Colwall in Division Two but was unable to inspire a win for his side who were beaten by four wickets by Enville.
All-rounder Rodgers contributed an unbeaten 39 and returned 3-60 but the visitors passed Colwall’s 234-6 with four overs to spare.
Another Australian, Wormelow’s Jamie Banfield had a happier debut with the villagers enjoying the better of a draw with visiting Stourport.
Banfield (57) and Tim Boulter (72) were the principal contributors to Wormelow’s 183-6 with a third-wicket stand of 108.
Shaun Waldron (2-21) backed up Banfield (3-34) as Stourport’s rain-shortened reply produced 114-7.
Andy Cullen’s 122 ensured that Malvern had the better of their draw at Ross in Division Three with James Tiffen, with 3-68 and 47, the pick of the home players.
Two players had special reason to remember the opening game of the season in the second-team sections.
Bromyard’s Dan Mills returned the excellent figures of 7-52 in his side’s winning draw with Worcester Dominies.
And there was a maiden century for Wormelow teenager George Lancaster (103) as the villagers piled up 315-7 against Himbleton who replied with 121-8.
